Beds and Herts collaboration continues

A groundbreaking joint firearms support unit for Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary was launched last week with the aim of cracking down on gun crime (July 1).

The unit follows the successful setting up of a joint dog unit, professional standards department and scientific services unit in April, and the launch of the Beds and Herts Major Crime Unit in 2007.

Beds Police Deputy Chief Constable Martin Stuart said: "This new joint unit, along with the other collaborative initiatives already implemented, aims to bring about both greater operational effectiveness and productivity.

"Beds and Herts continue to lead the way with thses collaborative ventures."

The colloboration programme has been overseen by both forces' Police Authorities.
