Caldecote defy the elements in Beds League
With three Bedfordshire Cricket League Premier Division games cancelled following Sunday morning's downpour, the match between Dunstable Town and Leighton Buzzard did start although it had to be abandoned with Leighton having reached 30-3.
With all but one First Division One games also called off, surprisingly Caldecote managed to get their game against Harrold on.
Batting first, Harrold were restricted to 203-9, opener M Smith making 57 before falling to James Vallom (30-3 off ten) while G Griffiths added 54 before being caught off the bowling of R Bowyer (1-28 off nine). Ben Welch (2-47 off ten), Brett Sizer (1-25 off three) and Jason Welch (1-10 off one) were the other Caldecote wicket takers.
In reply opener Sizer smashed the Harrold bowling for an unbeaten 79 while Jason Welch (31), Dan Hall (49) and Kai Shilton (25 not out) steered Caldecote (205-3) to a comfortable seven wicket win off 39.3 overs.
Potton Town 2nd XI travelled to Lancot Park on Sunday where they reached 76-6 when the heavens opened and their Fourth Division matches against Dunstable Town 3rd XI was abandoned.
Also in the Fourth Division, Henlow 2nds beat Luton Town & Indians 3rds by five wickets.
Luton were 182 all out with Adam Giddings taking 4-42 while in reply
Henlow reached 183-5 with Jordan Cleghorn just one run short of his half century while Giddings went on to make 66.
Cople Argus (178-4) managed to beat the weather and Eggington Foresters (177-9) with a four wickets Second Division win while Eversholt (212-7) also beat Pavenham & Felmersham(208-9) in the Second as they claimed a three wicket success.
Other games to survive were in the Fourth Division at Luton Town & Indians 2nds (255-1) who beat Southill Park 2nd XI (120-5) by 135 runs.
And at Harrold, the home 2nd XI made up for their 1st XI defeat at Caldecote with a nine wicket win after bowling the visitors out for 95 runs
