European title fight called off for a second time

A niggling virus has caused Matt Skelton to pull out of his fight with Sinan Samil Sam for the vacant EBU heavyweight title.

The 41-year-old Bedford Banger had been due to take on the Turk in Antalya on July 4, but suffered a re-occurrence of the virus he first contracted in his days as a K1 fighter in Japan.

Having been unable to train for a week a doctor confirmed on Wednesday that he would not be able to resume training for another fortnight.

This is the second time the Skelton-Sam clash has been called off after the Turk had to pull out of an original May 30 date due to an injury.
