Junior section of Bedford Sugar Guild win a national competition

A splash of the seasons helped a group of culinary youngsters to success when the junior section of Bedford Sugar Guild won a national competition.

The Bedford Cygnets took part in the Sugar Guild region seven competition in Wellingborough, and their decorated cakes beat those made by rival groups from as far afield as London, Peterborough and Cheltenham.

Their entries were themed around the four seasons, and our photographer Tracey Goodacre captured a selection of their creations before the competition.

Maria Kirkwood, chairman of Bedford Sugar Guild, said: "We were all so excited. The Cygnets have been going for 27 years, but we have only won gold once before. It shows just how much work they put in."
