Midnight Walk is a massive success

There was a festive theme to his year’s Midnight Walk in aid of Keech Hospice Care.

Fire-breathers, jugglers and dancers helped to light up the midnight sky while funfair games and stalls selling popcorn and ice cream added to the electric atmosphere.

More than 400 women sporting bunny ears, fairy wings and a variety of amusing fancy dress costumes gathered at Barnfield College for the start of the 10 mile event.

On the stroke of midnight they set off on their charity challenge – some pacing themselves, others running for the finishing line. But all supporting each other and having enormous fun for a great cause.

Walker Amanda Holmes said: “We took part for the first time and hope it will be the start of many more.

“It was a fab night and very well organised. The volunteers along the way helped keep up our spirits when we were getting tired –they were fantastic.”

Fellow stroller Leanne Gayton said: “What an amazing event!
“My feet were killing me but I’m already looking forward to doing it all over again next year.”

There was a memory wall for messages at the half way point which kept many walkers motivated.

Because behind all the smiles and the laughter was a serious fundraising message.

And the fifth annual Midnight Walk certainly achieved its aims – more than £40,000 was raised for the hospice that cares for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
