Headteachers and governors will meet council officers next month to see how they could benefit should Central Beds Council receive a government grant to overhaul schools.

The council says it is hopeful it will receive a slice of the £45 billion investment being made in schools across the country under the Building Schools for the Future programme.

At the meetings in July council officers will be 'gathering views and information' on the way schools are currently run, and will talk to school representatives about how likely they are to receive any cash for new buildings.

Cllr Anita Lewis, who heads up children's services at the council, said: "It is important that we review our current school provision and improve or rebuild where necessary.

"If we can obtain money from the Building Schools for the Future programme, this will help Central Beds Council work with governors, headteachers, parents, pupils and the community to do just that.

"The whole school building estate for secondary age children, including middle schools, can then be improved or rebuilt to support the transformation of learning and achievement in Central Beds schools."
