Thousands of pounds wiped off property values in one month
House prices in Luton fell by nearly £100 a day between September and October this year, according to figures released by the government's Land Registry. Prices in Bedfordshire, which includes Dunstable, Houghton Regis and the surrounding villages, prices fell by more than £52 a day.
The average price of a house in Luton stood at £143,383 in October, a full two per cent decline on just one month earlier. The decline was much deeper than the national and regional figures.
However Luton's property prices have fallen by just 4.7 per cent in the 12 months to October, which is much less than the 10 per cent national drop and the 11.2 per cent falls recorded across the east of England region.
Across the council boundary, average Bedfordshire prices have dropped by £1,577 in the month from £176,413 recorded in September. On an averaged annual basis, prices across Beds have fallen by 7 per cent in the last 12 months.
Price drops have affected all types of property, from the most expensive detached homes to flats and maisonettes.
