A night of dance is in store at the Watford Palace Theatre on October 9 when the Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company’s latest double bill revisits the past and takes a step into the future.

Classic Cut pairs Configurations, Jeyasingh’s seminal 1988 collaboration with composer Michael Nyman, with her latest company work, Dev Kahan Hai?/Where is Dev?, danced to a commissioned score by sound artist and DJ, Niraj Chag.

The original Configurations was widely celebrated for its bravura use of speed and stunning detail. Revisiting and re-imagining it, Jeyasingh gives a glimpse into the beginning of her company’s life and the inspirational collaboration between choreographer and composer (Nyman’s music for Configurations became his acclaimed String Quartet No. 2). New lighting designs by Lucy Carter and costume designs Ursula Bombshell complete the picture.

In Dev Kahan Hai?/Where is Dev? Jeyasingh plays with ideas of desire and anticipation, inspired by classical Indian dance and the intense dramas of countless Indian films. The Bollywood-tinged score is by Niraj Chag, a key modern interpreter of Asian classical and folk styles.
