Youth coach Alan Neilson says he's happy learning his trade with Hatters kids

Youth team coach Alan Neilson has ruled himself out of the running for the jobs of Hatters assistant manager and first team coach. The former Luton Town player, who was appointed youth team coach in the summer, admitted he is looking forward to helping manager Mick Harford with the first team but has no desire to land the role full-time just yet.

Neilson said: "It's right place, right time. It's temporary. I'm enjoying working with the first team players. It's a new experience for me. I'm youth team coach and helping the gaffer out at the moment. We are all sad to see Joe Dunbar and Warren Neill go but, as people say, things happen in football sometimes.

"It can't do any harm working with a great gaffer like Mick - first hand experience in a match day situation."

Neilson, who assisted Big Mick during Saturday' FA Cup tie at Southend, also revealed he was fined £10 by Sol Davis on his first day of training with the first team for making a bad decision during a practice game.

However, he admitted he is not seeing it as a long-term appointment, adding: "I'm happy with the youth team. I'm learning my trade with the youth team working with Gregg Broughton and developing the players in the youth team."

Neilson's promotion also meant Luton Town's scheduled U18 game with Peterborough at the weekend was postponed and will be rescheduled.
