The best of the action from the Southern Men's League

Luton AC made a strong start to their Southern Men's League campaign with a hard-fought second place in the opening match of the season at Eltham, East London on Saturday.

Luton were just beaten by host club Croydon Harriers, who scored 121 points to Luton's 119.

Such was the intensity of the competition, Luton could have triumphed had they won the final event, the 4x400m relay, but they could only finish third.

Star of the day was 17-year-old Craig Andrew, who claimed victories in the long jump and triple jump with 6.29m and 12.61m respectively, while the highest points scorer for the club was Ricky Rasmussen with 16 points, as he claimed valuable victories in the shot and discus.

Luton AC athlete Shannon Bunker stole the show at the Hungarian Throws Championships at the weekend, winning the best athlete trophy. Bunker took four gold medals, as well as smashing three British records and one club record. Team-mate Dave Burrell won two golds, a silver and a bronze.
