Kettle slammed as Big Mick look to tackle the 'massive issue' of poor officiating
Both Luton Town manager Mick Harford and Bradford boss Stuart Mcall were left seething at referee Trevor Kettle's whistle-happy performance during their sides' 3-3 draw at Kenilworth Road.

McCall and Luton striker Chris Martin were both sent off in a performance branded 'incompetent' by Harford, and he admitted the Hatters now face a 'titanic' battle to beat the drop.

He said: "He gave a penalty which, was never ever a penalty. So I can understand Chris Martin's frustration.

"I feel sorry for the fans who have got to pay money to come and see an incompetent referee and it's unjust to them. He played a big part in that result today and it was never a penalty.

"I will try to voice their opinions and just represent what they are thinking. I'm not going to skirt around the issue, because it is a massive issue.

"I'm just an honest fella and it's despicable what's gone on with the referee's performance. I'm just telling you the truth.

"We are highly charged footballers with a lot of adrenaline there. It's two points lost in what is now a titanic battle to stay in the Football League and I feel the referee has played a big part in us not getting the three points today."

Harford recalled that Kettle was in charge of his last game for Rotherham when he and three players were all sent off by the official and Barnsley netted a goal in the 94th-minute, and he added: "I know what this referee is about."

On the match and McCall's dismissal, Harford said: "I thought first half we were very, very good.

"I feel sorry for Stuart, he should never have been sent off. It was a fair tackle and a clean tackle.

"We were the best team in the first half, Bradford were the better team in the second half.

"We hung in there and battled away and scrapped and, in all fairness to the players, they showed a lot of commitment.

"Second half we were too deep, but kept fighting and kept scrapping and got what I thought to be a deserved winner."

And on their odds of staying up, he added: "It's got to be a monumental effort."

McCall, who was dismissed for 'encroaching on the pitch', before setting himself up in an executive box by the dugout, said: "I've never been as high, low, high, low, high in 90 minutes of football.

"Both teams went for it. From our point of view the only negative is we've conceded three set-pieces. On the spin we've come back from 2-0 down.

"Had we lost to that (Asa Hall's] goal it would have been a big blow."

He also slammed the free-kick that led to Luton's second goal, but praised Harford's side, adding: "I could never dribble or head or shoot, but I could tackle and that's the best tackle I've seen this season.

"I've seen Luton four times this season and every game they've deserved to win and they play good attacking football."
