Athletics round up

A number of Luton AC athletes were in action representing Bedfordshire at the McCain Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships in Birmingham at the weekend.

John McDonnell fell just short of gaining a qualifying place in the junior team for the World Cross-Country Championships.

He finished ninth, three places outside of a qualifying place.
Lutonian Darren Deed was similarly disappointed as, despite running the race of is life, he could only finish eighth.

The consistent Revee Walcott-Nolan came home 14th and Ellie Still finished in 48th place as Bedfordshire's U15 girls team, made up of Rebecca Murray and Elana Harris from Bedford & County AC, came third.

Earlier this year several Luton athletes competed in the Bedfordshire
Schools County Championships at Ampthill Park.

Amalia Edwards and Jamal Lewis won the girls' and boys' Year 7 events, but they are too young, however, to qualify for the English Schools Championships where a strong contingent of Luton athletes will compete in Manchester this weekend in the last cross-country race of the season.
