Firefighters had to pump 90,000 litres of water away from a property in Tilsworth to save it from flood waters coming off of local fields.

They received a call at 4pm on Sunday, January 3, from the homeowner concerned about the amount of water flowing from the fields during heavy rain that was threatening his property.

After a fire officer assessed the situation and a fire engine from Dunstable Community Fire Station was sent to Tilsworth to deal with the flood waters.

Using portable lighting to see in the encroaching darkness the crew used their main pump, a light portable pump and two lengths of 70mm hose to pump the water into the nearby moat of Tilsworth Manor to protect the property. By 5.16pm the water had been dealt with.
