Author Julie Earle returned to her old Houghton Regis school during its Book Week.

She read her book The Magical Gate to the children at Thomas Whitehead Lower School and spoke to them about creative writing with her motto “there is a book in everyone”.

Julie said: “The children made me feel very welcome and they had lots of interesting questions to ask.”

The writer also set them all a task, to let their imaginations grow by writing their own story. The winner in each class won a signed copy of The Magical Gate.

Julie held a colouring competition for the younger pupils, handing out pages of two of her main charactors, Claw the evil troll and Cherry the fairy. The winners also received a signed copy of her book. “Everyone at Thomas Whitehead was wonderful and I was sad to go,” said Julie.
