A fireworks firm’s 30th anniversary celebrations have gone with a bang after they were crowned British Fireworks Champions.
Fantastic Fireworks, who are based at Pepperstock and are behind many of the country’s most spectacular firework displays, won the title in Plymouth last Wednesday night.
They beat five other leading British teams with an amazing ten-minute display watched by an audience of more than 100,000 who lined the city’s cliffs and promenades.
The display used around 2,000 fireworks worth about £40,000.
The company, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, bagged its second title win, adding to the one it won at the inaugural competition back in 1997.
Managing director Jon Culverhouse said: ‘It’s a fantastic present for our 30th birthday year. Our team worked in atrocious conditions to get the display up.
“Wind and driving rain all day soaked everyone to the skin but we managed to keep the fireworks dry. It’s a credit to the professionalism of our team that everything went off as planned.
“We are all thrilled with the result.”
The title win is another feather in the cap of the company who last year were invited to the Cannes Film Festival to launch the latest Expendables movie.
More accolades are in the offing when they travel to Cincinnati in the USA next month to take part in the prestigious international fireworks competition Fire Up the Night. And they have a third chance of glory in October when they compete in the British Musical Fireworks Championship in Southport, this time with fireworks choreographed to a music soundtrack.
In November the company will be involved with a unique fireworks production of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds at Windsor Racecourse in Berkshire and Drayton Manor Park in the West Midlands.
