An abandoned Little Chef is set to be given a new lease of life as a family-friendly All-American diner.
The Hockliffe roadside cafe has been taken over by Northampton-based chain Buddies and is now looking to recruit up to 20 staff for a New Year opening.
Buddies is the brainchild of businessman Andrew Duthie who fell in love with the whole concept of American-themed diners on a visit to the States.
There are now nine, five of those in redundant Little Chefs, but this is the first in Bedfordshire.
Company secretary Terry York, said: “We’ve just taken a 20 year lease on the Hockliffe site so we’re there for the long haul.
“Buddies probably isn’t very well known down here but we pride ourselves in hand making all our own burgers, coleslaw, chilli etc. We even smoke our own ribs.
“We’re very family friendly and each restaurant usually has a theme. We’ve one which is Spiderman, another Batman, but we haven’t decided on anything as yet for Hockliffe.
“We won’t be open until the new year because we’ve a lot to do with the interior of the building and we have to recruit staff - everything from chefs to managers.”
