A second warehouse may be added to a retail site in Dunstable where 500 jobs have already been announced.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Prologis Park, on Boscombe Road, would be transformed into an Amazon dispatch centre in autumn this year, bringing 500 jobs to the area.
Now, it seems Prologis are considering building a second warehouse nearby, potentially creating even more jobs in Dunstable.
Caroline Melvin, of Prologis, said: “There’s a plot of land in front of the Amazon building, and that’s what it’s there for.”
Ms Melvin said it wasn’t confirmed yet when the warehouse would be built by Prologis, or if a commercial deal would need to be struck before building work could begin.
Local politicians have heralded the arrival of Amazon as a new step in the regeneration of Dunstable and Houghton Regis.
MP Andrew Selous described it as “the most amazing, brilliant news”, and Cllr Nigel Young said: “ It strengthens the area’s reputation as a vibrant location for business.”
The jobs as the Amazon depot are tipped to run on four shifts of ten hours per week, with medical insurance and tuition support opportunies available.
