A young Dunstable man was threatened with a knife, tied up and hit with a broomstick after burglars forced their way into his home in the early hours of the morning.

The 21-year-old victim was in bed at his flat in Drakes Court, Great Northern Road, when the three raiders kicked open the door.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after electronic equipment and cash was stolen during the burglary at 3am on Sunday, April 27. The intruders attacked the man with the broomstick and held a knife to his throat before forcing him into the living room and tying his hands together.

They searched the flat and continued to attack him with the knife while demanding cash. After 40 minutes they hit the victim around the head – knocking him unconscious – and fled the property with his mobile phone, laptop, TV, games console and wallet, which contained £40 in cash. It is possible the trio left the area in a waiting car.

The victim suffered cuts and scratches to his shoulders and chest during the ordeal and received treatment to his injuries.

Det Con Tim Worden is keen to hear from anyone who may have seen something suspicious or saw the burglars before or after the raid. He is particularly anxious to speak with members of the public who posted some concerns that they had on the ‘Spotted: Dunstable’ Facebook page.

Det Con Worden said: “This was a violent and sustained attack. People may have been making their way home after a night out in the town and seen something suspicious or out of place and I would urge them to contact me. Even the smallest pieces of information could help us with our enquiries.”

All three men were white. One was about 20, 5ft 10ins, chubby and wearing a black balaclava, gloves and a brown cargo jacket. He had ‘pointy’ teeth and his eyes had an orange tint.

Another was also 20, 5ft 11ins, average build and wearing an Adidas tracksuit with the hood pulled up to cover his face. The third was 17, 5ft 10ins, average build and wearing dark tracksuit bottoms and a blue hooded top.
