Police are appealing for witnesses after a distraction burglary in Houghton Regis yesterday.
Between 3pm and 3.30pm two men go into the home of an elderly woman in Brookfield Avenue by claiming they had seen someone jumping the fence into the garden.
While in the house the men insisted the victim checked nothing had been taken, before making off with three purses of money totalling nearly £1000.
The men are described as white and around 20-years-old. One was slim, around six feet and was wearing a cap with a white top and jeans. The second man is described as around 5’7”, large and wearing a denim jacket.
Det Con Joanna Bosson said: “The offenders have taken advantage of the victim’s vulnerability in this unpleasant incident and it has understandably left her shaken.
“I would urge anyone with any information to contact us. We remind the public to look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours and never to let unknown people into your home, always challenge them for identity documents on the doorstep.”
Anyone with any information should call DC Bosson on 101, text 07786 200 011, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
