An elderly woman was left “hugely distressed” after her home was burgled while she slept.

The burglary took place in Leafield between 9pm on Friday, May 13 and 8.30am the following morning.

The thief entered through an insecure door and ransacked the woman’s home, making off with a handful of household items.

PC Jennifer Buckley said: “This was a hugely distressing experience for the victim who was in at the time a stranger was rooting around her home.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area around this time and saw anything suspicious to contact me on 101 with any information.

“I would also remind residents of our Operation Fidelity home security advice and the importance of ensuring all doors and windows are securely locked when you leave or go to bed.”

Call PC Buckley on 101 with information. For further burglary prevention advice visit http://www.bedfordshire.police.uk/tackling_crime/burglary/what_can_i_do_to_protect_my_ho.aspx.
