A blaze which ripped through a Kensworth business has caused several million pounds worth of damage, the owner has told the Gazette.

More than 50 firefighters were sent to David Berryman Ltd in Common Road shortly after 4pm on Saturday after a raging fire broke out in the fruit juice company’s warehouse.

The inferno, which took crews nearly four hours to bring under control, could be seen for miles as it sent smoke billowing over south Dunstable.

Though firefighters managed to save the company’s office block, the warehouse and manufacturing unit has been left gutted.

Owner David Berryman said that the damage is worth several million pounds.

He added: “The office block is almost unscathed but the factory and deep freeze warehouse is really badly damaged.

“We’ll have to start from scratch with the factory. Because of the expensive equipment in there the damage will be in the millions.

“It is a great pity and it’s quite emotional for the people that work here as it is a really nice site.”
