Women’s Institute members were left saddened after their fundraising money was stolen in Dunstable on Saturday.

The money, which was being stored in a cash tin, was stolen from the Methodist Church Hall in Ashton Square as the WI held its annual May Fayre.

Two women entered the church hall at approximately 11.30am along with a child and a baby, claiming to supply food.

They then entered the kitchen and stole the cash tin.

The Dunstable WI stated: “Sadly some horrible people chose to steal the takings from the kitchen.

“We rely on this money to keep the group going for the year.

“So I hope whoever stole this hard earned money realise how many people they affected.”

Both women are described as being in their early 20s. One had long dark hair and the other had light hair in a ponytail.

Jamie Lowings, of the crime bureau, said: “We’re appealing for anyone who witnessed these two individuals enter or leave the premises to get in touch, so that we can help find the people responsible and recover the money.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting JD/20212/2016 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
