The former leader of the English Defence League (EDL) is to answer bail over an alleged fight in HMP Peterborough.

Tommy Robinson has been asked to attend Luton Police Station on January 12, having previously been arrested at Luton Airport in August 2015 on behalf of Cambridgeshire Police.

Robinson, real name Stephen Lennon, has hit out at the news on Twitter and suggested that it is a response to him setting up the English branch of the anti-Islam group Pegida.

A police spokeswoman said: “A 33-year-old man from the Bedford area was arrested on August 19, 2015, at Luton Airport by Bedfordshire Police, on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

“He is due to answer bail at Luton Police Station on January 12.

“The 33-year-old man was released with no further action at the end of last year due to lack of contact from the complainant and witnesses, however we have since received communication from them and the case is now moving forward.

“The incident is reported to have taken place inside HMP Peterborough on July 16, 2015.”
