Two men from Houghton Regis charged with people smuggling

Two men from Houghton Regis are due to appear in court today charged with smuggling illegal immigrants into the UK.

Zbigneiw Czerwiak, 41, and Piotr Baczkowski, 37, both of Balmoral Road are charged with conspiring to facilitate illegal and unlawful entry of non-EU citizens into the UK.

They are charged alongside three others – Erion Sherrniku, 20, of Union Road in Northolt, Middlesex, 32-year-old Eduart Lleshi of Curzon Road, Luton, and Katarzyna Kopec, 35, of Tythe Road, Luton.

The charges follow an investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU). A total of 16 Albanians were detained and deported as part of the investigation.

The five will appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court.
