Tebworth villagers are hoping to buy their only village pub after gaining the backing of local MP, Andrew Selous.
Residents were devastated when brewery Charles Wells Ltd announced last summer that the pub was up for sale, but after failing to raise enough funds via the Tebworth Community Pub Ltd benefit society, villagers are determined to raise funds via investors and crowdfunding, reaching £150,000 so far.
MP Andrew Selous, said: “I am very pleased to support the Save Our Pub, The Queen’s Head, Tebworth Village Action Group and I hope Charles Wells brewery will co-operate in a reasonable manner with Tebworth residents in relation to the price.
“I want to see the Queen’s Head remain at the heart of the village community and would ask Charles Wells to accept the Save Our Pub Action Group offer of £150,000.”
A spokesperson for Charles Wells said:“We at Charles Wells wholly support communities being able to run their own pubs when sites cease to become profitable to operate on a commercial basis. We would be happy to work with Tebworth Community Pub Ltd to make this happen for the Queen’s Head; sadly, however, the offer of £150,000 falls substantially short of the pub’s market value of £300,000 and we are not in a position to bridge such a substantial gap.”
