The Town Mayor’s Civic Service was held at the Priory Church on Sunday, April 17.

Councillor Liz Jones organised the service to reflect on the local community and the work of volunteers across the organisations in the town.

She was joined by the Deputy Lieutenant Cynthia Graham, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Charles Whitbread, the chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council and other Mayors from neighbouring towns.

Local cadet forces were represented with Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Training Corps and Girl Guiding.

The Mayor said: “Dunstable would not be the place it is without the many community groups who work tirelessly for the benefit of others.

“It has been an absolute privilege to represent our town and see and learn about the work of others.

“Volunteers help make Dunstable the place it is.”

A collection was taken during the service, which was led by Reverend Penny Draper of St Augustine’s, and will be shared with the Mayor’s charities and the Priory Church.

Home-made cakes and savouries were provided for guests by the Mayors’ family and the Mad Hatters Bakery, a new business in the town.
