Delay danger during M1 spur widening work

Motorists heading for Luton Airport or into the town centre from junction 10a on the M1 should allow extra time for their journeys over the next few weeks due to a series of overnight road closures.

From Monday (April 28) until Thursday (May 1) 1 May, and again from Tuesday May 6 until Friday 9 May, the M1 spur road will be closed eastbound (towards the airport) between M1 Junction 10 and Capability Green. There will also be lane closures on both sides of New Airport Way.

It will be closed again on Saturday (May 31) between Junction 10 and Junction 10a Kidney Wood roundabout.

The closures will take effect between 8pm and 6am when traffic will not be able to leave the M1 at junction 10 but will be be diverted to Luton via junction 11.

Other closures are also expected to take place in the area during the 70 week project.

It is part of Luton Borough Council’s £30 million improvement scheme – supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund – to widen the M1 spur road and New Airport Way to three lanes in each direction between junction 10 and Capability Green.

A 30mph speed limit will be in force for the duration.
