The 4th Dunstable Scout Group celebrated Scout Community Week at community garden Incredible Edible in Katherine Drive.

More than 100 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and leaders (based at Jeansway, Dunstable) worked in the garden weeding, planting, pruning and learning about the different types of fruit, vegetables and herbs growing in this public space.

Sahira Ward, the project founder, taught them about the garden, its history and the efforts of volunteers to make it what it is. Sahira explained that the garden is completely organic and relies entirely on volunteers to maintain it.

The young visitors helped make a wigwam for beans to grow up and learnt about wormeries and how they benefit the garden, the importance of plants and vegetation in a balanced environment and how these have real benefits to people.

Scout Community Week is sponsored by B&Q, who donated materials and plants to the project.

The children are looking forward to returning to the garden for Incredible Edible’s first birthday party on Sunday, July 6 between 2pm and 4pm.
