A Toddington man has blasted a “despicable“ takeaway after he was met with laughs when complaining about a hair found in a slice of pizza.

Rick Wilmott, 32, returned home from work on Monday night and ordered two pizzas from Peri Peri Palace, on Houghton Parade, only to later discover a black curly hair poking out of a crust.

The villager immediately called up to complain, but was left enraged after he was met with laughs and then hung up on.

Mr Wilmott subsequently spoke to the manager of the takeaway, who denied the incident but offered a refund for the £15 order.

In a later exchange of text messages the 32-year-old was told to “be happy mate”.

Mr Wilmott said: “The hair was disgusting but the reponse I was given was despicable. It was an attitude of ‘yeah it happens’”

“The whole thing was completely unprofessional and the apology was not genuine at all. It was all very immature, they seemed to be messing about. I still haven’t got the refund promised.”

Mr Wilmott has complained to the council’s hygiene department and to Just Eat, the website he ordered the meal through.

Abrar Danish, manager of Peri Peri Palace, said: “We have agreed to refund the money as the customer is always right for us. My mate picked up the phone and does not fully understand English, he did not mean to laugh.”
