A 12-year-old who dreams of becoming a professional golfer has bagged a hole-in-one on a junior golf tour.

Ben Loveard of Barton Hills hit the ace at the opening event of the Shires Junior Golf Tour at Hellidon Lakes in Northamptonshire.

It was only the second in Tour history.

According to his proud mum Tracey, Ben has been mad about the game since he was 18 months old.

She said: “He’d copy the golfers on TV using a wooden spoon and plastic ball. He had his first real golf club when he started at Stockwood Golf Club when he was two and was interviewed on Anglia news when he was three.

“He’d sit in on hour-long lessons with his older brother and cousins and take everything in.”

The Year 7 student at Luton’s Cardinal Newman School now belongs to Woburn Golf Club.

He said: “I’d love to make a career out of the game. I love being on the course and the excitement of playing in competitions. I can’t remember life without golf.”
