Aldwyck Housing Group, based in Houghton Regis, has received a Highly Commended for Excellence in Youth Involvement award.

The group was nominated at the 2014 TPAS Awards (Central Region) for its work at the Sandringham Drive Youth Hub in Houghton Regis over the past year.

The Youth Hub has achieved amazing results by getting kids off the streets and helping them to take an active part in improving their community.

They now spend their school holidays organising skip days, painting communal hallways and applying for local grants to fund activities for other local youngsters. Damian Czerwiak, 17, narrowly missed out on receiving the Young Tenant of the Year prize in recognition of the efforts he has made to involve other young people from the area in the hub.

Andrew Cobb, executive director of housing and customer services, said: “I am extremely proud of the hard work our team have put into making this project a success. It would not have been possible without them or without the commitment from residents, like Damian, who are determined to make a difference in their community.” TPAS is membership organisation of 1,900 tenants and residents groups and 230 landlords. Its mission is to “promote effective tenant involvement and empowerment”.
