Two men stole an amount of cash from Go Bowling in Dunstable during a bizzare and ‘brazen’ raid on Wednesday afternoon (August 21).
The incident happened at about 4.05pm when the two offenders approached the reception desk of the Court Drive venue.
One of the men asked a staff member about the price of bowling while the second asked another member of staff for an unusual souvenir for his wife in France – a £20 note with an ‘F’ at the start of the serial number.
When staff could not oblige the request, a manager was called, who said she would check in the office.
However, one of the men followed the manager into the office and stole a quantity of cash before leaving with his accomplice and fleeing in a small red car.
PC Jenny Buckley said: “The two offenders workedtogether to distract different members of staff and then carry out a quite brazen burglary.
“I would urge retailers and public facing businesses to be extremely careful when handling cash in an open area and to be wary of such a scam.”
Witnesses have said that both men spoke with French accents but it is unknown if they were real or not.
The first offender was a black male, mid-40s, slender build, bald, and wearing short sleeve top and smart trousers. The second was an Asian male, around 50 years old, six feet tall, wearing a hat and a shortsleeved white shirt.
