A car and a garage were left heavily damaged by fire after a suspected arson attack in Houghton Regis in the early hours of Friday morning.
The fire service was called to Hammersmith Gardens at about 12.50am to find a red Jaguar XF ablaze from the back and front.
Katherine Noble, mother of the car’s owner, was in bed at the time. She said: “I got up to open the window because it was too hot – then the whole room lit up. The gate was on fire and so was the fence. It was coming up over the trees.”
The fire had spread to an adjacent garage, and firefighters used one pump, a hose reel, and breathing apparatus to control the blaze.
The owner of the vehicle declined to comment.
A spokesman for Beds Fire said: “There was enough at the scene for investigators to be concerned that the fire could have been started deliberately.”
Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are appealing for witnesses. If you have any information, call Beds Police on the non-emergency number 101.
