Central Bedfordshire Council has been awarded £1.365 million to improve local transport in 2015/16.
It has been allocated from the government to fund improvement schemes in the council’s Local Transport Plan.
The plan aims to provide alternative transport options to the car and improve safety for all road users.
Councillor Nigel Young, said: “This is excellent news for our residents. Making sure journeys are sustainable, safe, convenient and even enjoyable are part and parcel of our commitment to make Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work.
“This money really can make an enormous difference to local communities and we have already been working in partnership with town and parish councils and residents on possible schemes.”
Any proposed schemes will be based on transport studies and consultation with residents and local councillors.
The funding is earmarked for specific proposals to be decided in the New Year.
