A Dunstable clinic is offering free help to carers to mark Back Care Awareness Week, which will start on Monday, October 7.
Woodside Clinic says the awareness week is focusing on “caring for the carers”.
So the team, in Great Northern Road, is offering free postural assessments and discount treatments to carers throughout the week.
The clinic also says it is happy to demonstrate exercises, and offer tips on back care specifically tailored to the needs of carers.
Carers may find they need to lift or physically support the person they are helping and may also be faced with having to move heavy equipment.
The clinic points out that exercises or treatments can be undertaken at home, using common household items.
Osteopath and clinical director Pratik Visaria said: “Carers have a vital role in looking after the well-being of others, often to the detriment of their own health. We want to help carers look after their own backs for a change.”
The team says that there are around 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK, who frequently put the needs of others before their own, sometimes sacrificing their health and well-being.
And it says 83 per cent of carers involved in a recent survey said their caring responsibilities had affected their own physical health.

> Evidence of membership of a local carers’ group or proof of receipt of Carers Allowance is required for the offers, only available next week.
