Last week was a big one for Dunstable’s community garden Incredible Edible, which celebrated its first birthday and was also visited by Anglia In Bloom judges.
The Katherine Drive project was started by Sahira Ward and the garden is completely organic and relies on volunteers to maintain it.
The birthday party was attended by the Mayor of Dunstable, Councillor Terry Stock, who judged a fancy dress competition and drew the raffle.
Dunstable Music School’s ukulele players performed during the afternoon and food was provided by visitors, the Co-op and the Curry Garden.
Red Watch from Dunstable Fire Station allowed children on to their fire engine and Rochelle North created fruit and veg face characters.
Luton & Dunstable Hospital Radio ran a live link from the party to the station.
Travel Choices schools and community officer Derek Smulders was there with the ‘Smoothie Bike’.
Sahira said: “The weather was perfect and it was a really fantastic afternoon in our wonderful Incredible Edible garden. All the prizes were from local people and businesses.”
Anglia In Bloom judges viewed the garden on Wednesday as part of their tour of Dunstable. The town is hoping to gain a gold award for the fourth time in this year’s competition.
