Man charged with causing death of 15-year-old Wanessa Lewandowska

A man appeared in court on Saturday charged with causing the death of 15-year-old Wanessa Lewandowska after a crash in High Town.

Michael Fludgate, 20, of no fixed address, was arrested on Friday following his release from Luton and Dunstable Hospital where he had been treated since the crash, which happened in High Town Road shortly before 10.30pm on Tuesday, August 9.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while unlicensed and uninsured, and failing to stop for police.

He appeared before Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and has been remanded into custody.

A separate Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into the actions of police prior to the collision continues.
