Man suffers eye and jaw injuries in street attack

Police appeal

Police appeal

A man suffered a broken jaw in an early evening unprovoked attack in a Dunstable street.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 26-year-old victim was assaulted as he walked along London Road at about 6.30pm on Wednesday, April 2.

He heard shouting and when he turned around he saw a man arguing with a woman outside Angel Wines.

He carried on walking, but moments later he was approached from behind by the man involved in the row with the woman. The man struck him to the side of the face and the left eye before running away.

The victim went to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital the following morning where an X-Ray revealed that he had suffered a broken jaw as well as swelling and fluid behind his left eye.

Detectives are in the process of checking CCTV, but are keen to speak with members of the public who were in the area and may have seen the assault taking place.

Det Con Jo Barkat, investigating, said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack which took place because the victim had simply turned after hearing someone shouting in the street.

“I would urge anyone who was in London Road on the day of the attack and may have witnessed the incident, particularly the woman who was arguing with the offender before the assault, to get in contact with Bedfordshire Police.”

If you have information relating to this incident, contact Det Con Barkat, in confidence, on 01582 394316, the non-emergency 101 number, or text information to 07786 200011.
