Parents in Central Beds are being reassured that there are sufficient primary school places in the area.
Figures released by the Local Government Association (LGA) this week highlight a shortage of primary school places across the country, but Central Beds Council say these figures are misleading.
The data did not include Year 5 and 6 places at Central Beds middle schools, and therefore the current capacity of lower/primary schools in the area is 22,364 rather than the 17,908 quoted they say.
Cllr Mark Versallion, portfolio holder for education said: “A key role for us is to ensure all our children have a place at a local school, that’s why our New School Places programme is so important.
“At the heart of all our work around education is a commitment to do everything we can to help our children reach their potential, both academically and in terms of their personal development.”
More than £100 million will be invested in the programme over five years.
