Dunstable’s historic Norman King pub will consigned to folklore, after councillors agreed on plans for it to be replaced with an extension for the Old Palace Hotel.

As expected Central Beds councillors passed through a planning application for the development at a meeting on Wednesday, which has sealed the site’s fate.

Last week campaigners launched a last ditch effort to save the pub with a petition of more than 2,000 signatures, but councillors concurred with the recommendation of a Central Beds planning officer to agree the scheme.

The derelict pub will now be demolished and replaced with a two-storey building for 12 new hotel rooms.
