A woman woke up to find someone had swiped the bonnet from her brand new car in Houghton Regis on Thursday.

Alison Jasper, 38, had bought a new Corsa just a few days earlier and parked it outside her home in Cemetery Road.

Sometime overnight, thieves struck and took the front off the car.

Her father Robert Jasper who lives at the house said; “My daughter had just bought this brand new car and was absolutely gutted when she saw what had happened.

“The insurance company is dealing with this now but we couldn’t believe it when we saw it. I just think people should be aware of what is happening in the area.”

The incident happened overnight on Wednesday between 7pm and 6am.

A Beds Police spokesman said “A white Vauxhall Corsa parked in a parking bay in Cemetery Road had parts removed including the bonnet, front frill, bumper, headlights and both number plates.

“During the incident a window was also smashed.”

New Corsas cost around £9,000.

In the Houghton Regis area, vehicle crime accounted for 9.5 per cent of all recorded crime between May and Decembe rlast year, with 497 incidents reported to the police.
