The sites of Bell Farm and Harper’s Food will be replaced by 23 new homes despite staunch opposition from the people of Studham.
Planning permission was granted to DLA Town Planning and Bellway Homes on Wednesday (October 9) by Central Beds Council
But – during the consultation period – of the 58 responses from neighbours received by the council, 53 were against the proposals and only one was in favour.
Studham Parish Council hosted a meeting of residents on September 5, and most of the 100 attendees were vocal in their opposition of the plans.
Chair of planning Mark Poyner said at that meetin: “Bellway have not done the consultation they say they have.”
Harper’s Food will relocate to a larger site in Pepperstock, leaving Studham without a shop.
A spokesman for Bellway said that they are hoping to commence building work once legal agreements have been signed and the retailers have moved out.
The spokesman said it is expected to be summer/autumn 2014.
