Dunstable firefighters are preparing for a big charity fundraiser – and they’re looking for Gazette readers’ help.
The Community Fire Station, Brewers Hill Road, will host a special ‘car boot car wash’ to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Drivers can turn up on Sunday, March 30 to get their car washed between 11 am and 3 pm.
Organisers are also asking for local residents to bid in advance for one of 25 car boot pitches available for the day, at just £5 a pitch.
Firefighter Simon Stanton (Blue Watch) said: “We are not looking for vans or traders. We want to attract local householders, who may want to combine a spring clean with an opportunity to come down in their car and raise a bit of cash in return.”
Anyone interested in buying a pitch for the car boot sale should contact Louise Tallo at Dunstable Fire Station on (01582) 661223 ext 5326.
Simon added: “Admission to the car boot sale will only be 50p and the cost of getting your car hand-washed by firefighters is purely down to your generosity on the day!”
Speaking of the charity that will recieve the proceeds on the day, Simon said: “The Fire Fighters Charity does excellent work, helping injured and sick firefighters and their families with practical support, including some superb rehabilitiation faciilties.
“This year is the 70th anniversay of the charity, which was set up in the Second World War, and we want to make a special effort to mark the anniverary.”
Simon added that there is an additional benefit for those who attend the charity car wash.
He said: “As our event is taking place on Mothering Sunday, we expect to see plenty of husbands and children bringing Mum’s car down for a special clean!”
