A makeover is on the way for Houghton Regis Post Office, in Bedford Square, as part of a major investment programme to modernise branches.
The branch will temporarily close for the refurbishment, from 5.30pm on Tuesday, September 3, re-opening at 1pm on Thursday, September 12.
It will have two screened positions and a Post Office serving point. The Post Office says this is a new concept for delivering its products and services alongside retail transactions. After the revamp, customers can also renew their car tax at the branch, and on Saturdays, it will no longer close at midday, remaining open 9am-5.30pm.
South West Beds MP Andrew Selous gave his stamp of approval to the news.
And Will Russell, Post Office Regional Network Manager – South, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in this area of Houghton Regis and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
He added: “The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches. This investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
During the revamp, Post Office users will be welcomed at other branches, including Tithe Farm Post Office, in Hillborough Crescent, Houghton.
