A new café is now open every Tuesday afternoon at Aldwyck Housing Group’s Sandringham Hub in Houghton Regis.
It’s run by Right Track, a community interest company, and staffed by local people with learning disabilities.
Many of them have previously had the opportunity to work in cafés linked to college courses, but this usually stops once the course ends.
The new venue gives many people the opportunity to continue to gain valuable work experience.
Six volunteers have spent the last few months planning how to run the café, which has been initially funded by a grant from Houghton Regis Town Council.
Right Track is looking for further funding sources to secure the future of the project and to support their volunteers to move on from the café into ‘real jobs’.
The cafe offers a great place for residents to drop in and gain information about job clubs, volunteering opportunities and other local groups.
It opens for the first time on Tuesday, June 3 from 1.30-3.30pm at the Sandringham Hub, 48 Sandringham Drive.
