Zeera in Tring Road, Dunstable

Immigration officers raided a Dunstable restaurant in front of shocked diners on Friday evening – arresting three illegal workers.

Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers paid a visit to Zeera, in Tring Road. and found that three members of staff were immigration offenders from Bangladesh, all having overstayed their visas.

Two of the men, aged 37 and 19, have been detained and the third man, aged 39, was released on immigration bail while his case is progressed.

The restaurant now faces a potential penalty of up to £10,000 for each of the illegal workers unless the owner can demonstrate that appropriate pre-employment checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document.

Robert Tompkins, from Home Office Immigration Enforcement, said: “These arrests are a clear warning to those in Bedfordshire abusing our immigration laws. There will be no let up in our work to arrest, detain and remove you from the UK.

“Employers who use illegal labour are defrauding the taxpayer, undercutting genuine employers and denying legitimate job hunters work.

“I would urge anyone with detailed and specific information about suspected immigration abuse to get in touch.”

Anyone with information can report it by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
