Caddington heading for catastrophe?
L12-1415 Flooding just outside Caddington village, torrential rain over night.
Flooding fears of Caddington residents were realised yesterday when torrential rain caused havoc on the village’s main roads, just weeks after a parish councillor warned there would be a “catastrophe”.
Concerns about inadequate flood defence systems, particularly on Mancroft Road, were raised at this month’s Parish Council meeting .
Central Beds Councillor Brian Spurr said the council is preparing a flood risk management strategy which will open for public consultation next year.
In the meantime, drivers using the main roads out of the village must steer carefully through the water, which is nearly a foot deep in parts.
Local weather expert Philip Eden said 20mm of rain (0.8 inches) fell in the Luton area between yesterday afternoon and today.

He said: “Given that the ground is thoroughly waterlogged after the wet summer and autumn it’s no surprise that there’s been some flooding in places.
“The wet spell is expected to continue until at least the middle of next week.”
