Cheers as store opens in ex-pub
It was time to ring in the new when a Co-op food shop was launched in the transformed former Eight Bells pub premises in Dunstable.
The new 3,000 sq ft convenience store, in Westfield Road, opened its doors on Monday, December 3.
It’s a replacement for a smaller Co-op nearby, just across the road from the new shop.
Children from Beecroft Lower School were delighted to give the store manager a helping hand to officially launch the new shop.
As a thank-you, the Co-op has given a £200 donation to the school.
Bright and spacious, the new shop will offer extensive ranges of fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, seasonal products and freshly baked bread and pastries.
Manager Catherine Birchett said: “We are thrilled to open the doors of our new store in Dunstable. “
She said the team was delighted that Beecroft Lower had played “a central role” in the launch.
> When planning permission was granted for changes to the ex-pub premises, a planning statement at that time said the Co-op had a long lease on the existing store in the Westfield Road shopping parade .
The statement said the company was considering using it for another Co-op business, such as a pharmacy, travel outlet or opticians.
The statement added: “If this is not viable, the Co-op will actively market the property with a view to either sub-letting or assigning the lease as quickly as possible.”
