Consultation under way on school age change bid
Views are being sought on a change of age range at Houghton Regis Lower School.
The school wants to cater for pupils aged three to 11, in a bid to “improve education standards and align its age range with a number of other schools in Houghton Regis”.
Education in the area is moving towards a two-tier primary and secondary model from its existing three-tier model.
Parents, staff and people from the community are being invited to have their say on the school’s proposals in the consultation, which is a legal requirement.
Councillor Mark Versallion, in charge of education at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “Above all we want to raise standards and results for all our pupils.
“We will consider any proposals by schools that will meet these aims as long as they can show that this is what parents want, that the new arrangements will meet the needs of all pupils.”
A public meeting will take place at 6pm at the school this Friday (September 14) to give parents and others the chance to find out more and ask questions.
This consultation ends on Monday October 8 and the council will then decide whether the proposals can continue to a final six-week stage of consultation, during which the public will again be able to put forward their views.
