Dope ‘confession’ no surprise

The University of Bedfordshire’s Professor of Sport has called shamed cyclist Lance Armstrong “one of the worst examples of a doper”, and said his television confession was “no great surprise”.

Over the last two years, the university has worked with UK Anti-Doping towards cleaning up sport, hosting educational days for children to highlight the dangers of doping.

In light of Armstrong’s confession on last week’s Oprah Winfrey chat show, professor John Brewer – a board member of UK Anti-Doping – said he found it hard to sympathise with any statement of remorse

After watching the show he said: “It is hard to feel any sympathy for a man who is one of the worst examples of a doper, and his previous repeated denials and obstruction of the truth, make it hard to give any genuine credibility to his statements of remorse.”
